11 Pakistani Soldiers Killed in Clash Near Afghan Border
Pakistan's military confirmed 11 soldiers lost their lives during an intense firefight with militants in the rugged terrain near the Afghan border on Tuesday. Security sources described the engagement as one of the deadliest clashes in the volatile region this year.
According to military officials, the confrontation occurred when insurgents attempted to breach border defenses in North Waziristan district. The remote mountainous area has witnessed increased militant activity following the withdrawal of international forces from neighboring Afghanistan in 2021.
"These brave sons of Pakistan made the ultimate sacrifice defending our territorial integrity," read an official statement honoring the fallen troops. The communiqué noted families had been notified while wounded soldiers received emergency medical care.
Military analysts indicate the border region remains a security challenge, with officials consistently alleging cross-border militant movement. During the engagement lasting several hours, security forces reportedly neutralized 30 combatants while reinforcing defensive positions.
Regional tensions remain heightened with Islamabad repeatedly calling for stronger border controls. The incident comes as Pakistan prepares to mark Defence Day on December 6 - a national holiday commemorating military service.
The Pakistan Army concluded its statement vowing continued operations against militant elements while urging international cooperation to stabilize the volatile frontier region.
