484 Inmates Released in October - BuCor
In a significant move to ease prison congestion, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced the release of 484 individuals from correctional facilities between October 1 and October 27, 2025. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by Philippine authorities to address overcrowding in penal institutions.
According to the BuCor statement, the released detainees were evaluated based on good behavior, time served, and legal eligibility. The releases spanned multiple institutions, with New Bilibid Prison contributing the largest group of 192 inmates, followed by 78 from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm.
Additional releases included 63 inmates from an unspecified correctional facility, with the remaining detainees freed from other BuCor-managed institutions. The bureau emphasized that each release was conducted in accordance with established legal procedures.
"This operation demonstrates our commitment to humane corrections and meaningful rehabilitation," said a BuCor spokesperson. "We're not just releasing numbers but giving deserving individuals a chance to rebuild their lives."
BuCor has been actively implementing release programs to reduce prison populations and provide support services for successful reintegration into society. The bureau noted that freed individuals will receive assistance with employment, housing, and community reintegration programs.
