A mass shooting at a crowded bar on an idyllic South Carolina island left at least four people dead and another 20 injured, officials said.

The shooting happened early Sunday at Willie's Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island. A large crowd was at the scene when the gunfire erupted, leaving a community in shock. Emergency responders flooded the scene shortly after 2 a.m., treating victims in the bar's parking lot before transporting them to medical facilities. The normally quiet island, known for its Gullah culture and scenic Lowcountry views, was awakened by the sound of gunfire and screams.

"We never imagined something like this would happen here," said Sarah Jenkins, a lifelong resident who heard the commotion from her nearby home. "Willie's is where families gather for birthdays and holidays. It's just... numbing."

Authorities have not yet released information about potential suspects or a motive. The investigation remains active, with FBI agents assisting local police. Meanwhile, grief counselors are being made available to survivors and witnesses.
