Afghan FM Muttaqi Visits India's Historic Darul Uloom Deoband
NEW DELHI: Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, visited Darul Uloom Deoband on Saturday, one of the oldest and most prestigious Islamic and academic institutions in the Indian subcontinent.
The visit comes as both nations explore avenues for academic and religious cooperation, with Muttaqi receiving a warm welcome from seminary officials and scholars. The historic seminary, established in 1866, has been a center of Islamic learning for over a century and a half.
"This visit represents a significant step in strengthening educational ties between our two nations," said a seminary official, adding that discussions focused on academic exchange programs and religious scholarship.
The Taliban-led government in Afghanistan has been seeking to normalize international relations while maintaining its Islamic identity, and visits to institutions like Darul Uloom Deoband align with that approach.
Students and staff at the seminary expressed hope that such exchanges would lead to greater understanding and cooperation between the two communities.
"Education has no borders," remarked one scholar. "Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied."
The visit concluded with traditional ceremonies and a pledge to continue dialogue on educational cooperation in the coming months.
