PTI Senator Criticizes Government Loan Celebrations

Economic crisis concept showing broken coins and financial documents

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Saifullah Abro delivered a sharp rebuke to the government Monday over its celebration of foreign loans, declaring that the country's economy "cannot survive on borrowing."

As chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, Abro minced no words in criticizing what he perceives as misplaced triumphalism around international financial assistance. "While we welcome foreign investment, we must remember that loans aren't solutions – they're temporary fixes that create long-term dependencies," he told reporters.

The senator's remarks come as Pakistan continues to navigate complex economic challenges, with international loans playing a significant role in stabilizing the national currency and funding critical infrastructure projects. Yet Abro's warning resonates with growing public concern about the country's mounting debt burden.

"Every loan we secure today becomes tomorrow's repayment pressure," Abro emphasized, adding that sustainable economic growth requires comprehensive reforms rather than short-term financial injections. His comments reflect mounting tensions between economic pragmatism and fiscal responsibility within Pakistan's political landscape.

The government has previously argued that foreign loans are essential for maintaining economic stability during global market volatility. Abro's critique highlights the delicate balance Pakistan must strike between immediate economic needs and long-term financial health.
